Main research question: how can you make your meals greener?
Sub questions: -What does each member of the group eat on a regular day? -Explain how your food contributes to the emission of Carbon dioxide. What factors should be taken into account if we want to calculate this emission? -Find out how much your meals contribute to global warming. -Device meals for one day that are greener than your average meals. -Is 'eating green' more healthy and better for the environment? What does each member of the group eat on a regular day? Laura: For breakfast I eat one slice of bread with jam and some yoghurt. For lunch I eat nuts, bread and I drink plenty of water. When I get home from school, I eat fruit and drink more water. The meals in the evening are not the same but most of the time it is potatoes with vegetables, rice or just pizza. In de evening I drink juice and I also like to eat something sweet after dinner. Samuel: For breakfast I eat bread. For lunch also bread and I drink juice. In the evening, I like to eat something warm. Most of the time vegetables or Italian meals. Diederik: For breakfast I eat bread. For lunch something warm such as soup or tosties and I drink juice or water. In the evening it is always a surprise. Beau: I do not have breakfast every day, but if I do I eat bread or cereals. For lunch I drink ice tea and I eat soup or bread. In the evening I eat pasta with vegetables and meat or rice etc. I drink juice the whole day. How does our food contribute to the emission of Carbon Dioxide? We do not eat a lot of meat so that reduces all sorts of gasses that contain lots of Carbon Dioxide. We also eat more food from Agricultural production. For this project we tried to reduce our footprint to limit the climate change. Finally, we have grown our own vegetables. If you want to calcute this emission you should start with the problem which is: we eat too much meat and too less green. So if you eat more green, it is better for the enviroment and for your health. Broccoli soup We tried one green recipe. The recipe we made was: Broccoli soup. Ingrediënts for 4 persons: -25g butter -2 onions -500gr broccoli -1l vegetable bouillon -2 potatoes -50gr cheese We all thought it was really nice. It had a surprising taste: broccoli like and creamy. We also enjoyed the making so it was a great succes! We also served it to our family members. They really liked it and recommended it to other people too. Interview We made flyers to show other people what green food includes and a recipe to make it themselves. For example: mr Bauer. We asked him his daily food pattern and some imaginary situations wherin he had to choose: healthy, organic, unhealthy or green. He was honest so that really helped. Finally we asked him if he even knows what green food is. He did not know it so we gave him the flyer. He said that he wil change his food pattern and eat more green. We have done this interview several times. In the beginning, we did not have any information or interesting questions. We learned from this and improved our work. Indian pupils We did ask the Indian people for some tips. We began more confident with talking to them after we had introduced ourselves. They really helped us and we helped them. Conclusion You can make your meals greener by looking at: amount of nutrients, amount of sugars and fats and where it comes from. We learned a lot from this experiment and we really enjoyed it! |
